Almost immediately after taking office, Donald Trump and his administration began an attack on the National Park Service by shutting down official Twitter pages and then pressuring the parks to find proof to validate his claims that he had the largest inaugural audience ever.
This is not acceptable. The National Parks belong to all Americans and Twitter and Facebook are used to communicate with visitors in real time, giving updates on road closures, safety, weather, animal sightings and other visitor issues.
The Trump administration is also censoring information on climate change and threatening to build a wall along the southern border, which would go across Big Bend National Park, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and Amistad National Recreation Area.
Protecting the environment for future generations should not be a partisan issue. We must take positive action now to ensure future generations can enjoy places like Acadia and Arches, Denali and Glacier Bay, Yellowstone and Yosemite.
This blog and associated social media will be used to share information about climate science, the environment and issues regarding the national parks.
